A new article:

I have a passion for understated, wearable designs using neutral tones. They look luxurious and sophisticated in an effortless chic kind of way. Sharp tailored clothes that look as if they are made to fit each wearer are something to be treasured and praised. The fashion label ‘Chloe’ has always been able to create this style and look to their garments which are aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Prior to Chlo ©’s launch, luxury fashion houses had only ever produced Haute Couture (i.e. made-to-measure) clothing. This was fine for the few who could afford it, but it left everyone else in frequently poorly-made copies, supplied by the local seamstress. Chlo ©’s creator, Gaby Aghion, rejecting the stiff formality of 1950s fashion (and sensing a gap in the market), decided to create a line of off the rack, high quality, soft, body conscious clothes from fine fabrics, which she called ‘luxury pr ªt- -porter’ and thus, the Pr ªt- -Porter (Ready-To-Wear) market we know today, was born. The couturiers quickly followed suit (the first being Givenchy, with their 1956 Ready-to-Wear collection; ‘Givenchy University’) and today, designer ready-to-wear heavily outweighs couture.” 1966. Karl Lagerfeld is the main designer and Chlo © becomes one of the symbolic brands of the 70’s. Among its customers : Jackie Kennedy , Brigitte Bardot , Maria Callas and Grace Kelly . Stella Mccartney is another fashionista i like to associate with. Having represented Chloe as chief designer in 1997 it is no wonder i admire her range and designs for the same qualities and characteristics as Chloe. Additionally she brought to Chloe a slightly new take and direction of feminine and romantic, impertinent qualities. Stella’s sharp tailoring is inspired by her Savile Row roots and her eponymous line started in 2001. The fact she doesn’t use leather or fur has made her even more popular and respected within the fashion world. Two statement pieces i associate with her are her precision-cut tuxedo jackets and her chain-trimmed totes. Below is a video of Stella’s SS11 range: Prada Talking of Italian tailoring and fitted attire i had to mention Prada as one of my favourite designers. The epitome of Italian design and their current SS11 advertising campaign add’s a quirky and fun edge which I adore!… Alexander Wang, Known for his androdgynous, wearable and clear lines look, at 24 Wang is undoubtedly a continuously evolving talent, backed up by the image below from his Pre-Fall 2011 collection. Pre-fall collections don’t get much attention generally but Alexander Wang once again manages to deliver so it’s not suprising to see the fashion world coveting the range. Magaret Howell: is a contemporary British clothes designer who has worked successfully in both men s and women s wear. Howell has been a strong, if quiet, presence on the British design scene for nearly four decades. Keynote designs are her take on the shirt, gymslip, lace-up shoes, duffle coat and trench coat. Many have an androgynous quality underlined by a succession of carefully controlled photographic campaigns, these are shot on location in black and white. http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/2007/sep/01/design
